Prescriptions

 

CF Medicines:

 

Albuterol - Nebulized medication used to decrease the work of breathing, called a bronchodilator.  We only use when needed.

 

Advair - Inhaled medication that combines two medicines into one.  There is a long acting bronchodilator and a corticosteroid to reduce inflammation in the lungs.

 

Pulmozyme - This is a nebulized medication that is called a mucolytic.  It breaks down secretions in the lungs, making it easier to clear them.

 

TOBI - Nebulized antibiotic.  This medication, tobramycin, is nebulized two times per day for twenty-eight days, followed by twenty-eight days off the medicine.  It helps to battle pseudomonas infections.

 

Flonase - Nasal spray that we use once per day to help decrease inflammation in the sinus cavities.

 

Pancrecarb MS-8 - This medication helps to replace the enzymes that the body uses to digest foods.  The boys are not able to produce these in sufficient quantities on their own.

 

Prilosec - This medicine is used to decrease the acidity of the stomach, so that the Pancrecarb capsules do not dissolve before the intestines.  Also, assists with reducing acid reflux.

 

Zithromax - Broad spectrum antibiotic that Jacob takes to help fight off infections.

 

VitaMax - People with CF have trouble absorbing Vitamins A, D, E, and K.  This multivitamin is specifically formulated to help replace these.

 

Epilepsy Medications:

 

Keppra and Trileptal - Jacob takes these medicines to inhibit seizure activity.
